Design Manager - Main Contractor

Our Multi National Main Contracting client has a new requirement for a well experienced, all round Design Manager to join their team in Dubai, UAE to work on Commercial, Hospitality, Residential and Industrial projects in the Emirates. Successful candidates will have a proven background as a Design Manager on Commercial, Hospitality, Residential and Industrial projects in the UAE and the wider GCC and a proven background working in a recognised Main Contracting Company.
This role is available for immediate joining and is a direct hire, permanent placement with our client.
Key Responsibilities:
- This is a Design Management role and candidates should have demonstrable skills in developing and coordinating base build design solutions for commercial, hospitality, residnetial & mixed use projects.
- Liaise with Company stakeholders ,consultant, sub-contractors and construction supervision management
- Leading and managing the full design process up to IFC with international and local consultants and coordination of project delivery against the design.
- Monitoring projects budget against the design across project life cycle up to Tender documents followed by IFC
- Managing and stewarding projects risks and key milestones to company stakeholders on regular basis
- Review design documents throughout the different project stages to make sure the design intent is well maintained up to construction
- Obtain stakeholders approvals on different design stages confirm cost and program compliance with investment case and to present designs
- Interface with the Commercial Management team to procure different services
- Participate in establishing and implementing the Project Management Plan and or Design Implementation Plan and procedures
- Prepare tender strategy identify qualified sub-contractors and vendors prepare and issue RFP s evaluate proposals negotiate contract terms deliverables payment schedules and issue recommendation to the client/consultant
- Monitoring the material submission RFIs replies during the construction phases in coordination with the construction team to ensure applying the primary design intent
- Oversee the implementation of design quality assurance Value Engineering as well as completeness of design documents throughout all phases up to Construction Documents in coordination with local international consultants
- Organize manage design review meetings workshops and reports during design phases
- Ensures discipline project teams under their management comply with Project Execution Plans, including design management, project management and BIM management plans, and are adhered to throughout the project delivery process
- Confirms co-ordination issues are resolved
- Reviews scope of work, roles & responsibilities, and deliverables prepared by discipline leads to check alignment and consistency with Client and contract requirements.
- Assists the PM with controlling change
- Assists the PM with managing risk
- Responsible for periodic project progress reports to senior management
- Responsible for defining the quality budget and schedule for completing the technical quality review on deliverables
Design Manager Experience:
- Bachelor or Masters Degree in Architecture or Architectural Engineering
- 10+ years of post-qualification experience in a similar capacity
- Demonstrable expertise in Design Management for commercial, residential, hospitality and mixed use projects
- Good knowledge and experience in working in recognised engineering or Main Contracting companies
- Strong Design capabilities in Revit and other design softwares
- Proven ability to manage multiple workstreams and projects concurrently
- Able to work independently and work under pressure
- Self-motivated, able to prioritise work with target-oriented approach
- Excellent communication skills verbal and written
- UAE driving license is essential
