Landscaping Manager - 4 Month Contract

Our Semi Governmental client has a new requirement for a well experienced, Landscaping Manager to join their team in Dubai, UAE. Successful candidates will have a proven background as a Landscaping Manager for an FM Service Provider or Consultancy company on large scale projects and contracts, ideally experience in Major Events or similar projects in the UAE / GCC.


This role is available for immediate joining and is for an initial 4 month fixed term contract as an outsourced employee through J10 Consulting.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for providing strategic operational input with regards to the design and planning of the Landscape elements, through to the Event delivery of the overall Site Management Functional Area Operating Plan (FAOP) and ensuring that the Landscaping Service Providers align with the FAOP;
  • Collaborate with other business departments, such as Real Estate and Delivery (RE&D) and the Programme Management Consultant (PMC) to focus on an integrated planning approach for the handover and acceptance of Landscape assets.
  • Provide practical advice to the Landscape Design Consultants regarding plant species selection, irrigation schedules and proposed soil mixes.
  • Ensure alignment with Real Estate and Delivery (RE&D) and Consultants for Asset Handover strategy and implementation highlighting gaps in Defect Liability Period (DLP) and warranty periods where applicable
  • In line with, and to support EXPO 2020’s corporate Health and Safety Policy ensure that all aspects of Health and Safety responsibilities are delivered by all Operations Support Service (OSP) direct employees and contractor employees
  • Ensure Service Provider compliance to approved safe working practices Lead the Operations Support Service (OSP) Landscaping team to ensure equipment supply, process and delivery of operations meet the needs of the functional area and managed service providers
  • Ensure the development and on boarding, recruiting and maintaining teams, building capability in people, training and coaching   
  • Lead the team responsibly and proficiently, providing effective line management to direct reports
  • Set objectives and evaluate performance of individual direct reports and actively manage key personnel issues
  • Ensure that all staff acquire the required skills and knowledge through appropriate learning and development programs
  • Act as Subject Matter Expert across design reviews and strategy consultancy for all landscaping activities
  • Ensuring that all company policies and procedures are adhered to, specifically to include all responsibilities and accountabilities associated with the Health and Safety Policy and assurance standards
  • Ensure that Procurement for your area of responsibility is on target and delivered against the critical path.
  • Report to the Director – Operations Support Services and undertake EXPO wide duties as may be reasonably requested
  • Oversee the development of the short term and medium term operating plans for the Operations Support Service (OSP) Functional Area, to include people, procurement, budgeting and service delivery;
  • Act as the focal point for the overall Landscape scheme and provide input for the Operations Support Service (OSP) Functional Area into the ongoing development of the ‘Concept of Operations’ and Functional Area Operating Plans
  • Take the lead for the delivery of Horticultural services for all Event Operations owned and operated locations within the site and successfully implement effective management across the functional areas
  • Manage the planning and delivery of the handover for the landscaping and irrigation assets, including management of the irrigation schedule and maintenance program
  • Manage the planning and delivery of the occupational health and safety for the operational period and work with Real Estate and Delivery to ensure a seamless transition to operations
  • Take the lead with the wider Expo teams to assist with the development of the plans for installation overlay and to reduce clashes and damages to Landscaped areas
  • Integrate with other Event Operations Functional Areas to plan for the ongoing management of the site during operations e.g. maintenance of the venues, logging of issues and tracking of resolutions

Landscaping Manager Experience:

  • University/college degree in a related discipline
  • Minimum of 8-10 years’ experience, two years of which were in a similar role working within a highly dynamic and complex environment, with specific experience related to developing effective Horticultural services across a large development/community.
  • Knowledge across key operational functions with the ability to demonstrate an understanding of the Site Management dependencies in conjunction with the operational functions and non-operational directorates.
  • Experience in working in a multi-cultural organisation, GCC region desirable
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Experience in managing a large departmental program
  • Experience in overseeing an on-site plant nursery
  • Experience in managing service providers in a high profile development
  • Experience in working with senior level Government partners and multi-agency stakeholders
  • Knowledge of previous Mega event operations
  • An understanding of Landscape contractors in the UAE/Dubai is an asset
  • Ability to build a network across the project teams and key external stakeholders
  • Communicates well and consistently from Director/executive level down to large teams of workforce e.g. volunteers
  • Ability to collaborate and integrate well with other business functions
  • Skilled project manager, methodical thinker, with superior guest service focus and excellent written and verbal communication skills
