Planning Engineer - Pipeline Projects - Consultancy

Our International Engineering consultancy client has a new requirement for a well experienced Planning Engineer specialising in O&G Pipeline projects to join their team in Abu Dhabi. Successful candidates will have a proven background as a Planning Engineer on large scale Pipeline projects in the GCC. Only candidates who are experienced in large scale pipeline projects exceeding 30'' and 100km will be further considered for this role as per the project requirements.


This role is available for immediate joining and is a direct hire, permanent placement with our client.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish a planning system according to the specifications of the project.
  • Prepare and maintain a valid overall project schedule using Primavera, MS Project etc. as appropriate.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation on planning and scheduling progress.
  • Manage and co-ordinate the activities with regard to budget, cost control, change order administration and review.
  • Assist the Project Manager in preparing, submission and tracking invoices / payments. Co-ordinate all subsequent activities with regard to cost control and scheduling.
  • Develop 90 day front end schedule.
  • Develop FEED, EPCM and EPC contract schedule, level 2 control schedule, manpower deployment schedule and histograms, equipment deployment schedule (if applicable), progress s-curves, level 3 working schedule.
  • Identify the project deliverables, milestones, and required tasks and targets to determine the staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources to various phases of the project through the project measurement system.
  • Implement the work schedule and monitor progress of the work for timely execution of the project through daily / weekly / monthly / reports with respect to review of the overall project.
  • Progress monitoring of specific projects on a regular basis. Anticipate and resolve any problems, bottlenecks / scheduling conflicts.
  • Prepare and maintain package work plans and monitor progress to achieve on time or earlier deliveries to keep the project on schedule.
  • Co‐ordinate internal project team reviews followed by an approval and review by the client of the work schedule, progress measurement and reporting systems. Review status reports, modify schedules and plans as required and keep the management and Project Manager apprised of the progress on a regular basis.
  • Ensure that project controls documents such as resources histogram, schedules, reporting systems, material controls systems, etc. are fully developed by the designated personnel and reviewed.
  • Support Project Services on cost reporting by providing monthly progress updates on projects.
  • Attends all the company-organised training courses when invited.
  • Development of clients capability by assisting in the training of staff.
  • Be aware of and obey the Company Health, Safety and Environmental, and Quality rules & perform the activities as per IMS.

Planning Engineer - Pipelines - Experience:

  • Minimum Bachelor Degree in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical or Industrial Engineering from a recognised University or Colleges
  • PMI Certification (PMP / RMP / SP) will be advantageous
  • 12 + years’ experience in project planning role, preferably working for Oil and Gas / Water and Energy sectors
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Conversant in Primavera, MS Project and Microsoft office. 
  • Teamwork.

  • Proficiency in Risk Analyser (optional).
  • Mature, proactive, take initiative and well organized.
  • Systematic and able to work under pressure.
  • Detail-oriented, dependable and trustworthy.
  • Meticulous and able to follow through with tasks promptly.
  • Able to work independently as well as in a team.
