Senior Design Manager (Hospitality) - Consultancy

Our Multi National Project Management Consultancy client has a new requirement for a well experienced Senior Design Manager to join their team in Abu Dhabi, UAE to work on New build and refurbishment Hospitality projects in the Emirates. Successful candidates will have a proven background as a Design Manager on Hospitality build and refurbishment projects in the UAE and the wider GCC and a proven background working in a recognised PMC or Design Consultancy business.


This role is available for immediate joining and is a direct hire, permanent placement with our client.


Key Responsibilities:

  • This is a Design Management role and candidates should have demonstrable skills in developing and coordinating interior and base build design solutions for Hospitality new build and refurbishment projects.
  • Liaise with Company stakeholders ,consultant, contractors and construction supervision management
  • Leading and managing the full design process up to IFC with international and local consultants and coordination of project delivery against the design.
  • Assessment and evaluation of design Consultants including scope definition contract management budget stewardship as well as progress and variation monitoring according to the scope and contract
  • Monitoring projects budget against the design across project life cycle up to Tender documents followed by IFC
  • Managing and stewarding projects risks and key milestones to company s stakeholders on regular basis
  • Review design documents throughout the different project stages to make sure the design intent is well maintained up to construction
  • Obtain stakeholders approvals on different design stages confirm cost and program compliance with investment case and to present designs
  • Interface with the Commercial Management team to procure different services
  • Participate in establishing and implementing the Project Management Plan and or Design Implementation Plan and procedures
  • Prepare tender strategy identify qualified consultants contractors and vendors prepare and issue RFP s evaluate proposals negotiate contract terms deliverables payment schedules and issue recommendation to the client
  • Monitoring the material submission RFIs replies during the construction phases in coordination with the construction team to ensure applying the primary design intent
  • Oversee and guide consultants design progress activities Monitor and verify design progress and submittals at all design phases
  • Oversee the implementation of design quality assurance Value Engineering as well as completeness of design documents throughout all phases up to Construction Documents in coordination with local international consultants
  • Attend or chair meetings and or workshops with consultants and contractors review meeting minutes and follow up to achieve identified actions
  • Organize manage design review meetings workshops and reports during design phases
  • Ensures discipline project teams under their management comply with Project Execution Plans, including design management, project management and BIM management plans, and are adhered to throughout the project delivery process
  • Confirms co-ordination issues are resolved (Through use of task log or similar tracking tools)
  • Reviews scope of work, roles & responsibilities, and deliverables prepared by discipline leads to check alignment and consistency with Client and contract requirements.
  • Assists the PM with controlling change
  • Assists the PM with managing risk
  • Responsible for periodic project progress reports to senior management
  • Responsible for defining the quality budget and schedule for completing the technical quality review on deliverables


Senior Design Manager Experience:

  • Bachelor or Masters Degree in Architecture or Architectural Engineering
  • 10+ years of post-qualification experience in a similar capacity
  • Demonstrable expertise in Design Management for Hospitality build and refurbishment projects
  • Good knowledge and experience in working in recognised engineering or design consultancy companies
  • Strong Design capabilities in Revit and other design softwares
  • Proven ability to manage multiple workstreams and projects concurrently
  • Able to work independently and work under pressure
  • Self-motivated, able to prioritise work with target-oriented approach
  • Excellent communication skills verbal and written
  • UAE driving license is essential
