Senior Design Manager - Roads & Highways

Our global Engineering consultancy client has a new requirement for a well experienced consultant Senior Design Manager (Roads & Highways) to join their team in Riyadh, KSA at a high profile project. Successful candidates will have a proven background as a Senior Design Manager on large scale roads and highways projects in KSA and the wider GCC.
This role is available for immediate joining and is a direct hire, permanent placement with our client.
Key Responsibilities:
The Design Manager leads the design teams during design delivery and manages design activities of projects. They are the main counterpart of Project Managers and a key support in client interactions. Working closely with Project Managers for the review and validation of design deliverables and monitors the checking and reviews of all design phases and ensures the proper implementation of all related adjustments and revisions. The jobholder conducts design value engineering in coordination with the Project Manager and design teams. Supporting the Project Manager with budget, schedule, client, technical and quality management activities on projects. S/he shall stay abreast of the latest trends and developments in the design of Roads & Highways and represent the firm in the professional engineering community, as needed.
- Support the collection of internally available data to support project execution
- Lead one or more design teams during design delivery
- Lead discussions with clients to determine criteria guiding design, including budgets, preferences, etc.
- Develop concept designs, including all required drawings and reports, for projects of high complexity, for discussion with clients
- Guide the refinement of selected design options into schematic and draft final designs, including all required drawings and reports
- Lead the coordination with other design specializations (e.g. Architecture, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Transportation ) to coordinate design requirements across disciplines for design projects of high complexity across all design stages (conceptual, schematic, detailed), as needed
- Closely work with stakeholders for design value engineering for projects of medium to high complexity, as needed
- Closely work with Project Managers for the review and validation of design deliverables for projects of medium to high complexity with clients and authorities, capturing feedback and obtaining approvals, as needed
- Closely work with the Quantity Surveying Department for the development of tender documents, including specifications, Bills of Quantities and Conditions of Contract, and provide support during the tender process, as needed
- Closely work with project teams for reviewing design deliverables of design projects of medium complexity, including conducting detailed reviews and checks and the issuance of checking reports, as needed
- Coordinate the review of complex designs with Principals and Associate Principals, in coordination with design teams and Project Managers
- Support Project Managers in developing, reviewing and updating work programs and man-hour estimates and in managing changes in project scope, schedule or budgets, as needed
- Support Project Managers in managing project budgets, resource allocation and project schedules, as needed
- Support Project Managers in managing project contractual risks, as needed
- Support Project Managers in managing external suppliers and subcontracts and in ensuring the adherence of their deliverables with the project scope, schedule and budget
- Assist Project Managers in monitoring and managing the projects' budget and schedule, as needed
- Provide support to Project Managers in developing periodic progress reports, as needed
- Assist Project Managers with implementing quality control policies and procedures on design deliverables and conduct peer review on team members' deliverables
- Support during the supervision stage, as needed, including responding to RFIs and solving design conflicts, in coordination with local design support teams
Senior Design Manager (Roads & Highways) Experience:
- Bachelor or Masters Degree in Civil Engineering
- 10+ years of post-qualification experience in a similar capacity
- Demonstrable expertise in Design Management for high value roads and highways projects
- Good knowledge and experience in working in recognised engineering consultancy companies
- Proficient in MS Applications, particularly Excel / Word / PowerPoint / Outlook.
- Able to work independently and work under pressure
- Self-motivated, able to prioritise work with target-oriented approach
- Excellent communication skills verbal and written
