Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - Consultancy

Our Multi National Engineering Consultancy client has a new requirement for a Senior Consultant Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team in Dubai to work on high profile mix use projects including high rise hotels, residential and commercial developments. Successful candidates will have a proven background as a Senior or Principal Mechanical Design Engineer for large scale mixed use projects in the GCC and must have a recognised engineering consultancy or supervision consultant background


This role is available for immediate joining and is a direct hire, permanent placement with our client.


Key Responsibilities:

  • This role will demand a broad range of experience and knowledge to support design projects, value-added engineering efforts, and to continuously enhance our engineering analytics group. Candidates will need to have the ability to balance efforts on multiple projects simultaneously that will include forensics-style engineering analysis and advanced design engineering. Innovation is key and we encourage the development of new solutions and technologies in-house.
  • Design: You will be responsible for the design of facilities related to mechanical systems across a variety of markets including high-rise residential, education, commercial, industrial, manufacturing, science, and technology industries. You will be expected to coordinate and work closely with a multi-discipline design team throughout the entire life cycle of projects from planning stages through construction documents. This will include the preparation of mechanical (HVAC/Plumbing/FP) designs, calculations, energy analysis, estimates, reports, and specifications for building and facilities projects.
  • VE & Analytics: Our engineers are also responsible for performing advanced engineering analysis and value-added engineering. This will include developing optimized and cutting-edge solutions to address clients’ unique challenges. For example, solutions will include but are not limited to the following: stress analysis, computational fluid dynamics, energy modeling, hydraulic analysis, data assimilation, etc. Candidates will be expected to have an innate drive to learn and expand their skill set including utilizing current industry tools or developing new in-house solutions as required. Efforts will typically be carried through to full design/redesign and can begin anywhere from the concept phase to the final design
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and communication skills are necessary for success in this position
  • Proven ability to technically lead and motivate project teams of HVAC designers and drafters and to effect interdisciplinary coordination of technical work
  • Assists with mentoring junior staff within the Department
  • Independently performs all the tasks necessary to complete primary design elements for engineering works
  • Determine methods and procedures for new or special assignments
  • Ability to act as a project manager assisting with workload planning, team management, and project management
  • Assist in project checking for quality control on other projects
  • Ability to leverage previous experience completing multiple large projects with excellent results
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory and regulatory authorities and obtain approvals as necessary
  • Liaise with clients, professional organizations, contractors, suppliers, sub-contractors, and other designers
  • Generation of detailed cost estimates, material take-offs, schedules, and preparation of analytical reports and presentations
  • Leverage broad expertise or unique knowledge and skills to contribute to the development of company objectives and principles and to achieve project and strategic goals in innovative and effective ways
  • Have extensive knowledge in international and local mechanical codes, ASHRAE standards, NFPA, and ICC codes, in addition to experience with analysis and layout of mechanical systems, hydronic piping, air distribution, and products and materials


Senior Mechanical Design Engineer Experience:

  • Bachelor or Masters in Mechanical Engineering
  • 8-15 years minimum of relevant experience designing a wide variety of commercial, high-rise residential, and industrial designs for buildings and facilities.
  • Experience should be in systems associated with mechanical HVAC and/or Plumbing and Fire Protection design
  • LEED-AP certification
  • Experience with load and energy calculation software such as Carrier HAP, IESVE, TRACE 3D Plus or TRACE 700 is strongly preferred
  • The ability to work in AutoCAD and/or REVIT is strongly preferred but not required, based on qualifications
  • Cost estimating experience
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following software suites, or equivalent, is desired: Autodesk Simulation CFD, SolidWorks, Inventor, GLD, MATLAB, PIPE-FLO, CEASAR II, Ansys Fluent, cove.tool
