Senior Structural Engineer - Consultancy

Our International Engineering consultancy client has a new requirements for well experienced consultant Senior Structural Engineer to join their team in Riyadh, KSA to work on high profile residential, commercial and mix use projects. Successful candidates will have a proven background as a Senior Structural Engineer for large scale RC built projects in the GCC and have worked for a recognised consultancy company or PMC business previously.


This role is available for immediate joining and is a direct hire, permanent placement with our client.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing and commenting on Contractors, sub-contractors or specialists drawings, specifications, method statements, temporary works, proposals, designs etc., for compliance with designs, drawings and specifications.
  • Monitoring materials incorporated within the Works for compliance with requirements.
  • Inspect the works on site to see that they are being built generally in accordance with the Contract drawings and specifications and also with good engineering practice.
  • Verify that the soil conditions encountered during construction can be reconciled with the ground conditions found at the time of the soil investigation works.
  • Witnessing and monitoring of any relevant tests or trial assemblies undertaken by the main contractor or others. Witnessing tests of equipment and systems incorporated within the works.
  • Inspection of samples and test areas produced by the main contractor or others. Issuing of Site Instructions.
  • Providing advice and clarifying Specification requirements.
  • Providing advice and responding to requests for information from the main contractor and others.
  • Liaising with the Contract Administrator, site staff from other Consultants, and Building Control.
  • Defining areas of defective workmanship or materials.
  • Report any suspected contamination either in the soil of in any existing construction to the Contract Administrator. Review proposals for safe method of treatment and disposal.
  • Maintenance of comprehensive record system including site diary, weekly reports, instructions etc.
  • Reporting at site meetings on matters relating to designed or specified elements of the site works.
  • Prepare snagging lists of defects in conjunction with the contractor and agree dates for completion.
  • Be aware of the design philosophy and engineering principals for the project. Receive a comprehensive briefing from the project engineer before starting on site.
  • Have an understanding of the buildability aspects and construction techniques applicable for the project.
  • Carry out a cross reference check of all documents including specifications and drawings and bar bending schedules (if applicable).
  • Keep a continuing review of the temporary and permanent stability of the building as it is constructed.
  • Assist the design team with the co ordination of the engineering particularly when it applies to site matters. 


Senior Structural Engineer Experience:

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering and will be experienced in the design and specification of building structures in steel, concrete and masonry to American and British Standards.
  • You will have demonstrable experience of delivering projects from concept through completion in a multi-disciplinary and/or multi-office project execution environment.
  • You will be an experienced user of structural engineering software including CSi ETABS, SAFE, SAP2000, Autodesk Robot Structural Analysis, STAAD, Prokon in addition to in-house spreadsheets.
  • You will have a solid background knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit software, with ability to carry out coordination through Revit.
  • You will have the ability to undertake structural inspections and report on material and construction defects and provide guidance for remedial repairs.
  • Preference will be given to a Chartered Engineer with IStructE (or working towards it).
  • Minimum of 10-12 years experience - at least 4 of which will be working as a senior Structural Engineer in a recognised consultancy company
