Urban Designer - Design Consultancy

Our Multi Award Winning Architectural Design Studio client has a new requirement for a well experienced Master Planner / Urban Designer to join their team in Dubai, UAE to work on high profile project new projects. Successful candidates will have a proven background as a Master Planner or Urban Designer on large scale projects in the UAE and the wider GCC with a proven track record working in recognised design consultancy clients.

Key Responsibilities:
- Develops design plans in response to technical problems posed by a project’s scope. Develops innovative solutions to problems that effectively address the social, legal, and economic implications of the physical form.
- Provide project or task management to develop urban design and planning concepts and translate them into clear and compelling graphic images.
- Independently evaluate, select, and apply standard urban design techniques, procedures, and criteria, using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications on projects.
- Plays a key role in client management and client satisfaction.
- Leads marketing efforts to current clients and is instrumental in identifying and attracting new clients.
- Responsible for creating urban design projects for company clients. Ensure timely delivery of quality designs by using creativity & artistic talent, good organizational, through the application of oral, graphic and written communication skills.
- Prepare conceptual master planning/urban design for internal valuation processes. Prepare design briefs, scope of work, RFP documents for master planning consultants.
- Review and ensure compliance of master plans with all applicable quality norms. Work closely and effectively with the Development Department and other divisions within Design Department to ensure that developed master plans are both financially and technically feasible.
- Manage relationships with regulatory/ compliance authorities for master planning and development control.
- Manage support staff in the production of internal master plans/urban designs.
- Ensure that master plans, landscape designs are completed according to time and budget.
- Ability to work both independently and within a team environment with a solid understanding of other design disciplines such as architecture, landscape architecture and engineering;
- Promote initiatives in sustainable development through community planning, green buildings and the public realm.
- Onsite design modifications and implementation of additional clients’ requests
- Participating in the preparation of periodical progress report, correspondence with client, project managers and contractors.
- Prepare Maps and Data Analytics for Master Plan Performance
- Have a wide range of software skills including in addition to CAD, Sketchup, Adobe and Microsoft, Rhino, GIS, Grasshopper etc...
Urban Designer Experience:
- BSc In Architecture, Urban Design or Urban Planning as minimum, MSc would be advantageous
- A minimum of 5 years professional experience with local and international consultancies across small to large-scale master planning and landscape projects
- Proven skills and understanding of urban design concepts, forms, scales and typologies, as well as local building codes and regulations
- Clear understanding of local and international construction methodologies and design regulations implemented in master planning and landscape projects
- Undertake Job Management role, including but not limited to job/ fee estimate, program preparation and forecasting
- Highly proficient using Revit, InDesign Adobe illustrator, Lumion or 3DS Max in addition to other design softwares
- Strong design and presentation skills, including freehand drawings and use of Photoshop and In Design
- Ability to complete accurate deliverables to a high standard and within a timely manner, including drawings, reports, models and calculations where applicable
- Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary practice
- Ability to understand his / her own project programme requirements with regards to timeline and fees
- Proficient with Microsoft office packages
- Excellent English communication skills – both oral and written
- Good Business Acumen and Client Relationship Skills
